Genere: pop  label: Illumne Records  reviewed: 9-12-24

Amelie’s Glass House offers a vibrant mix of Modern Pop and Hyper pop, exploring themes of love and self-empowerment. The album kicks off with the catchy, albeit cliché, "Dreamhouse", setting a strong tone. "Pills Like Kisses" shines with its sultry pop perfection, while "Glass House" provides a powerful ‘80s synth-pop anthem celebrating self-love.

"Sugar Baby" adds a playful touch, and the collaboration on "Do You Wanna?" brings high-energy hyperpop. "You Will Never Be a God" delivers a solid female empowerment anthem but isn’t as memorable. "Arcade’s Unlove" feels out of place but stands out sonically.

"Endless Blvd" and "Poison Arrow" offer emotional depth, with the latter being a standout track. "Blue Lagoon" vividly captures betrayal, and "Iridescent Dreams" delves into fleeting love with haunting allure. The album closes strongly with "Sweet Dear Lily" and "Eulogy of a Former Sweetheart," the latter featuring a nostalgic ‘80s sound and a star-studded video.

  1. Dreamhouse: 5/10
The album kicks off with "Dreamhouse," a classic female empowerment anthem. Combining K-pop and Western pop elements, the lyrics may come off as a bit cliché, but the track remains engaging and sets the stage for the rest of the album.

  2. Pills Like Kisses: 9/10
One of Amelie’s standout tracks. "Pills Like Kisses" is pure pop perfection, with Amelie comparing her love to something more addictive than any drug. Her sultry, mature sound shines through, making this track a highlight.

  3. Better Than a Victory: 8/10
This fun, upbeat track follows in the vein of "Pills Like Kisses," and continues the vibrant, energetic vibe. The lyrics explore the thrill of falling in love, drawing listeners into Amelie’s emotional world.

  4. Glass House: 9/10
A standout title track, "Glass House" channels '80s synth-pop influences. It’s an anthem about self-love and embracing one’s flaws. Amelie’s unapologetic confidence is refreshing, and this track could easily have been the album opener.

  5. Sugar Baby: 7/10
"Sugar Baby" is a playful and catchy track, offering a lighter, more fun contrast to the album’s deeper moments. While it’s enjoyable, it might not have the same emotional impact as some of the other songs.

  6. Do You Wanna?: 9/10
Featuring rapper Zahair, "Do You Wanna?" is a high-energy hyperpop dance track filled with sexual tension. It’s a fantastic collaboration and one of the album’s more dynamic songs that deserved better chart performance.

  7. You Will Never Be a God: 7/10
As the lead single, "You Will Never Be a God" is another anthem of female empowerment, addressing industry struggles and personal betrayal. It’s a strong track, though it might not be as memorable as some of the other standout songs.

  8. Arcade’s Unlove: 5/10
"Arcade’s Unlove" stands out with its hyperpop sound, focusing on online hate and judgment. While it’s an interesting track, it feels a bit out of place within the album’s overall theme.

  9. Endless Blvd: 8/10
"Endless Blvd" showcases some of Amelie’s best lyricism. It’s a reflective track about unrequited love and the acceptance of an endless, unfulfilled yearning, providing a deep and contemplative moment in the album.

  10. Poison Arrow: 10/10
Amelie’s finest track. "Poison Arrow" delves into a relationship gone sour, with love turning toxic. The song is a powerful, emotional highlight of the album, showcasing Amelie’s exceptional songwriting and performance.

  11. Blue Lagoon: 9/10
In "Blue Lagoon," Amelie sings about betrayal and heartbreak, using the metaphor of drowning in tears. The track effectively captures the pain of being wronged by a close friend, making it a memorable and evocative piece.

  12. Iridescent Dreams: 10/10
Featuring Sweetener, "Iridescent Dreams" explores themes of lust and regret. The song’s portrayal of fleeting, illusory love is both haunting and captivating, making it a standout track on the album.

  13. Sweet Dear Lily: 10/10
"Sweet Dear Lily" is a touching LGBTQ anthem where Amelie explores her attraction to the same sex. The song beautifully narrates the journey of falling in love despite past rivalries, establishing itself as an instant queer classic.

  14. Eulogy of a Former Sweetheart: 10/10
The album’s closing track, "Eulogy of a Former Sweetheart," is a standout. Its ‘80s-inspired synth-pop sound is nostalgic and fresh, and the music video’s star-studded appearances add to its impact. This track is a fitting conclusion to the album’s journey.
