Genere: pop  label: Illumne Records  reviewed: 9-12-24

Finn’s debut album offers an emotional ride through vulnerability, love, and self-reflection, all wrapped in irresistibly catchy pop. Kicking off with the dreamy lead single "In My Head," Finn explores an infatuation with a celebrity fantasy. The deeply personal "Interlude" follows, addressing his struggles with sexuality, and setting a heartfelt tone for the record.

"Adrenaline" and "Bewitched" offer fun, synth-pop moments, while tracks like "Running Into You" and "Plastic Hearts" dive into themes of self-sabotage and betrayal. The album reaches its emotional peak with "The Lakeside" and "The Story," both reflecting on love, loss, and life’s cycles. The closing track, "Breathe," ties it all together with a soothing, reflective vibe, capping off a truly remarkable debut.

Finn’s ability to mix introspection with infectious pop melodies makes this album a standout, showcasing his versatility as an artist.

  1. In My Head: 10/10
Serving as Finn’s debut single, "In My Head" introduces listeners to his world of fantasy and infatuation. The song explores his love for a celebrity he’s never met, capturing the feeling of being lost in daydreams about someone on the screen. It’s a strong, relatable opener that sets the tone for the album.

  2. Interlude: 7/10
True to its name, "Interlude" is a brief but powerful reflection on Finn’s journey with his sexuality. The track, while short, is an emotional statement on self-acceptance, serving as a deeply personal LGBTQ+ anthem.

  3. Adrenaline: 9/10
This '80s synth-pop inspired track is a high-energy moment in the album. "Adrenaline" discusses Finn’s doubts about whether his lover is in it for love or just the thrill. Written by Finn and Elle Serein, it’s a fun and exciting track with a mix of uncertainty and desire.

  4. Bewitched: 10/10
"Bewitched" is pure pop perfection, co-written by Finn and Elle Serein. The collaboration shines with both of their influences, creating a lovestruck anthem that captures the feeling of being in awe of a crush. The track’s dreamy production and relatable lyrics make it a standout.

  5. Running Into You: 8/10
In "Running Into You," Finn explores the theme of self-sabotage, acknowledging his tendency to ruin good things while being fully aware of the toxicity. Produced by Theodore Berry, the song’s upbeat production contrasts with its introspective lyrics, making it both fun and emotionally engaging.

  6. Plastic Hearts: 9/10
This track addresses betrayal, as Finn warns a friend about their lover’s lies and deceit. Co-written by Finn and Sweetener, and produced by Sweetener and Theodore Berry, the song captures the tension of a scandalous situation in an irresistibly catchy way.

  7. The Lakeside: 10/10
A beautifully written piece, "The Lakeside" reflects on the cycle of life—moving out, falling in love, losing love, and beginning again. Finn is the sole writer, and his poetic lyricism shines here, making it one of the most memorable and emotionally resonant tracks on the album.

  8. The Story: 10/10
Using a familiar instrumental previously heard in "Fragile Heart" by Elle Serein and "Angel" by Hayley Rodrigo, "The Story" tells the tale of unreciprocated love and a partner who walks away without fully committing. Finn’s storytelling is heartfelt and poignant, capturing the essence of longing for something more.

  9. Breathe: –
The final track, "Breathe," wraps up the album on a calm, reflective note. Though not rated here, it serves as the perfect conclusion to the emotional journey, leaving listeners with a sense of closure and peace.
